Gifting the Best GV Wines this Holiday Season
Giving your family members and friends exquisite wines as gifts this year is an amazing idea.
Katie Wetter is the assistant manager at Gervasi’s Marketplace and offers the following when selecting Gervasi wines as gifts.
“When someone comes into the Marketplace wanting to gift a bottle of wine we typically ask if they are looking for a red or white and if they are looking for something sweet or dry,” Katie said. “If they don’t know, we usually suggest something middle of the road. That would be Piove for white wine and Truscano for red wine.
“We have a quite a few wine boxes available to choose from! The Classic Red comes with two bottles of red wine and an assortment of food items, while the Classic White comes with two bottles of white wine and an assortment of food items. The Signature contains one bottle of red wine and one bottle of white wine with an assortment of food items. Those are the most popular boxes, but we do offer a few more. They can be found on our website!”
Other gifting options are the many award-winning wines such as:
Moscato – Gold
Piove – Gold
Fioretto – Gold
Bellina – Silver
Serenata – Silver
Sognata – Silver
Lascito – Bronze
Sognata – Double Gold (Also Best of Show)
Piove – Gold
Fioretto – Gold
Ciao Bella – Silver
Lucello – Silver
Romanza – Silver
The wine list of winners goes all the way back to 2010 when Bellina won a Silver award at the Ohio Wine Competition.
Operations Manager at The Cave, Eric Raben, offers a few tips for selecting wines as gifts for friends, family, co-workers or employees
“Pick a wine that can appeal to anyone,” Eric said. “I would choose an off-dry (semi-sweet) wine that can satisfy a sweet wine drinker and a dry wine drinker’s palate. Piove, our off-dry Riesling fits the bill. Rosé wines are a great choice as well. Romanza is a perfect choice. If you know the recipient likes a dry red, find out if they are more of a fruity wine drinker or enjoy a more earthy wine. For a more fruit-forward dry red, I would select Zin Zin, but for a more earthy wine, I would go with Nebbiolo.”
Be merry and bright! Gift the wine and stuff the stockings with some great wine-related gifts such as wine glasses which are always a great item to add on with a bottle of wine! You can find a wide selection of wine glasses at the Marketplace along with wine wands that take out of the sulfites and histamines that cause headaches, which makes for a great add on as well!
Katie said, “We have some great fun items that will make exciting gifts such as hats with wine sayings, some funny wine stoppers, some fun towels and wine charms!”
If you prefer to let the recipient select the wines of their choice instead of trying to find the right wine, GV gift cards are available at all the outlets on the GV property, the Twisted Olive and on GV’s website. The website offers e-gift cards, as well as physical gift cards.
Serving the Best GV Wines to Holiday Guests
Make the season bright by with the right wines for party or dinner guests. Your wine selections will depend on the type of food you’ll be serving and whether you and your guests prefer a red or white wine.
Eric offered his suggestions on selecting the right wines for holiday meals and gatherings.
“Holiday meals are surrounded with relatives, friends, and meals that have been passed down thru the family. In my family, we tend to enjoy food that do not include exotic spices,” Eric said. “I would pair a lightly sweet wine like Tesoro, a vidal blanc that has aromas and flavors of melon and pear. Another favorite in my family is Abbraccio, our Cabernet Sauvignon that has full body and tannins, but is very well crafted and fairly fruit-forward.”
Which wines go well with Christmas cookies, chocolate, and other sweets?
Eric said, “You need to think about the sweetness level in the desserts. If you’re enjoying an Italian dessert that is usually not extremely sweet, you can choose a wine with a medium sweetness level. Lascito or Brigante are great choices. If the dessert is sweet, you must choose a wine that is sweeter than the dessert, otherwise the wine will taste sour and tart when enjoying the wine and dessert together.
“Moscato is a wonderful choice. For milk and white chocolates, a sweet wine (white) is best. With dark chocolate, go with a dry red. The tannins in the red wine and the tannins in the dark chocolate pair nicely together.”
Tis the Season for Love, Laughter, Meaning and Magic
And of course, it is always the right season for great wines from Gervasi Vineyard. Whether you serve them with a meal or gift them, Gervasi wines will unwrap the warmth, love, happiness and magic of the season.
