It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year to Celebrate

Buon Natale (Merry Christmas)!
Felice Hanukkah (Happy Hanukkah)!
Buon Anno (Happy New Year)!

The stockings are hung by the chimney with care. The tree has just the right number of lights and ornaments to make the room warm, lovely and bright. Invitations have been sent for all the holiday celebrations you have planned including the office parties everyone is anxiously awaiting.  The family meals have been planned and the gifts have been wrapped.

All that is left on your to-do list is to select just the right spirits to make the season even brighter. December is one of the best times of the year to enjoy some of the more decadent spirits offered at Gervasi Vineyard.

Holiday Spirits Box

It is also a great time to mix a spirit or two into that hot chocolate or warm up with some hot buttered rum using GVs spiced rum. Or, plan to shoot the whisky or bourbon this New Year’s Eve or dirty up your martinis for GV gin or vodka. For those family nights during the holiday season, top them off with one of GV’s BLU Blueberry, Citro Citrus or Giava Coffee liqueurs.

Don’t forget to plan to purchase some GV spirits as gifts for your holiday hosts, and for those hard-to-buy-for family and friends.

Spirits at Gervasi Vineyard

GV Spirits for the Holidays
This time of year, GV releases some of its specialty bourbons including the Rum Barrel Bourbon and Maple Cask Bourbon. Both are great additions to any holiday-inspired whiskey/bourbon cocktails or mixed drinks.

Shae Pridemore is the Head Distiller at Gervasi and he said a couple of his favorite seasonal selections of GV cocktails available on the menu this year include:

  • Spiced Rum Cider that has Gervasi Spiced Rum, Ohio Apple Cider, Apple Butter and Cinnamon. This cocktail is available at the Bistro.
  • Maple Hot Toddy has Maple Cask Bourbon, a touch of maple syrup, and a squeeze of lemon with a garnish of spices and can be ordered at the Still House.

Shae also offered a few tips on selecting the right spirits by using his favorite pick-three method.

“First and foremost, I always tell people if you like it, then drink it,” Shae said. “There is no wrong way to enjoy your spirits. But for gatherings around this time of year, I like the pick three methods. First, select a bourbon or aged spirit option such as our Wine Barrel Bourbon or Maple Cask Bourbon. Second, select a neutral spirit for mixing such as the Gervasi Small Batch Vodka or Sinners Blush which has just a hint of the grapes and adds a unique flavor to cocktails.

“Third, find a flavored spirit such as Giava, our Coffee Liqueur, or Saints Desire Blood Orange Gin. This way you have a little bit of everything and certainly, everyone will find something they enjoy!”

All Gervasi Spirits can be enjoyed on property in one of the restaurants or you can purchase a bottle to take home from one of the many restaurants or The Marketplace.

Matching and Mixing GV Spirits
Shae has tips on pairing your GV spirits with your holiday meal favorites such as turkey, ham, roast beef, chicken, steak and pork and sauerkraut?

“Traditionally for red meat and pork options, a whiskey neat or cocktail is a great option. For poultry like turkey or chicken a vodka-based Mule is a fun option. With Pork and Sauerkraut or Feast of the 7 Fishes I like a gin and tonic or similar gin-inspirations,” Shae said.

Need serving suggestions? Gervasi spirits are crafted to be enjoyed either neat by themselves or mixed into your favorite drink/cocktail. With a drink that needs a hint of sweetness it is fun to add one of GV’s many liqueurs. They are sure to add a unique flavor and depth to any drink.

“Personally, this time of year I will be heading to my favorite family-owned dairy in Wooster to buy some homemade eggnog. I enjoy mixing it with our Gervasi Spiced Rum or one of our many Bourbons.  My assistant and his wife enjoy a mulled cider with Gervasi Rum Barrel Bourbon, or if they are feeling adventurous the Gervasi Small Batch Gin,” Shae said.

Make it a spirited holiday season and try some of these offerings or make it an adventure and find ways to create your own GV spirit-inspired holiday special.
